How to measure your ring size at home

You may measure your ring size from the comfort of your own home in one of two ways. VRAI offers complimentary ring sizers, which makes measuring your ring size at home effortless. You may also find your ring size for the perfect-fitting engagement ring by doing the following:

  1. Use floss or a piece of string to wrap around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark where the string overlaps with a pen.
  3. Lay the string down on a ruler and take down the length in millimeters.
  4. Find which size corresponds to your measurement on our ring size chart.

How to use a ring sizer

Step 1. Create a loop
Secure the end of the sizer through the buckle to form a ring shape.

Step 2. Try it on
Slip your desired finger (usually the left ring finger) through the loop.

Step 3. Make it snug
Pull the end through until the sizer fits snug but is not overly tight.

Step 4. Find your size
When it fits correctly, look at the little black arrow and note your ring size.

Find your ring size with a printable chart

Before printing your ring size chart, make sure and check your printer settings so that page scaling is set to “none.” Once printed, take an existing ring that fits on the finger you are measuring for. Match the ring to its equivalent size on the ring size chart (the inside of the ring should match the circle on the chart). If you do not have a ring, use string or floss instead.

Top 5 tips to measure your ring size:

  1. When using a sizer, pull tightly. The sizer must fit comfortably yet snugly to produce an accurate size.

  2. Measure your finger at the time of the day when it will be at its largest — usually at the end of the day. Please keep in mind, your ring size can fluctuate about a half size based on your temperature, hydration levels, and hormones.

  3. Avoid measuring your fingers when they are cold or damp.

  4. Bands and rings over 5 mm in width may fit your finger more tightly than rings of the same size in narrower widths.

  5. The most accurate way to determine your ring size is by visiting a local jeweler or VRAI showroom. Book an appointment with our diamond experts for personalized guidance.

The best method is to measure a ring they wear on their ring fingers, although the left and right ring fingers may vary slightly in size. If they only wear rings on other fingers, you can still measure it to get close to their true size and anticipate resizing after you propose (excluding Infinity and Eternity Bands). If you’re unable to measure a ring, ask a close friend or family member who might know their size.

Frequently asked questions about ring sizes

Your engagement ring should fit snug, not tight, at the bottom of your finger near your knuckle. You should be able to slip the ring down your finger without forcing it and it should not slide up or slip off your finger on its own.

Yes! Most VRAI engagement rings and wedding bands range from sizes 3-14 and can be worn by men, women, and gender nonconforming individuals. Each numbered size and half-size is the same for men and women.

The average ring size for a woman is size 6 and the vast majority of women order rings sizes 5 through 7. The average ring size for a man is size 9 and most men order rings within the 8-12 range.

No. Infinity Bands and Eternity Bands with VRAI created diamonds that wrap entirely around the band are not eligible for resizing. Measure the exact finger these rings will be worn on for the perfect fit.

It’s best to measure for the exact size — and being measured professionally by a Diamond Expert in-person will take the guesswork out of sizing up or down. However, there are general guidelines should you need to decide on your own.

Thanks to VRAI’s Lifetime Care Package, most engagement rings and wedding bands can be resized up or down to one full size. However, this excludes Infinity Bands and Eternity Bands. For those styles of ring, you must measure for your exact size to ensure the perfect fit.

Ring Size Chart

You’ve found your ring size in mm, cm, and even inches! Now use our ring size chart to discover your perfect size.

Your ring size is a number that corresponds to the diameter of your finger measured in millimeters. Please use our complimentary ring sizer to find your ring size.

Engagement rings and wedding bands are commonly worn on the left ring finger. Measure the exact finger where you’ll be wearing your ring, as fingers on either hand can be slightly different.
